Cheryl TenBrink

Cheryl M. TenBrink was first elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2007. She was most recently re-elected in November 2016. She served as Board President from 2012-2014. However, her association with Kalamazoo Public Library started when she worked as a page in the Bookmobile Department at the age of fourteen. Her mother, Eleanor Whitman, was a Bookmobile libarian at the time. While in college, she worked at KPL as a student assistant and one summer she was the switchboard operator.

After receiving her Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Library Science from Western Michigan University, Cheryl became a school librarian in Kalamazoo Public Schools for 32 years, working at both the elementary and secondary levels. She retired in June 2007.

Cheryl and her husband Burt have two sons, Carl who is in the U.S. Army and Cory; both are married with families. They love visiting their families and especially their six grandchildren who live in Texas, Utah, and Oklahoma.

Cheryl enjoys reading for pleasure, going to water exercise class and spending time renewing friendships. She has lived in Kalamazoo for over 60 years.

She is an active volunteer in her community. She has been a library volunteer for nine years at her neighborhood KPS school, Woods Lake. Cheryl is a committee member and has walked in the Susan G. Komen Southwest Michigan "Walk for the Cure" each of the five years that she has been a breast cancer survivor. Also, she has been an active member of Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, a professional society of female educators for 35 years and has held many positions of leadership. In May of 2011 and 2013 she was named "Chapter Woman of Distinction".

Cheryl loves to attend Western Michigan University sporting events - especially football, but also Men's baseball and Women's softball and volleyball. GO BRONCOS!
