Cheryl TenBrink

Current board president Cheryl M. TenBrink was first elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2007. She was re-elected in May of 2011. However, her association with Kalamazoo Public Library started when she worked as a page in the Bookmobile Department at the age of fourteen. Her mother, Eleanor Whitman, was a Bookmobile libarian at the time. While in college, she worked at KPL as a student assistant and served as switchboard operator.

After receiving her Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Library Science from Western Michigan University, Cheryl became a school librarian in Kalamazoo Public Schools for 30 years, serving at both the elementary and secondary levels. She retired in June 2007.

Cheryl and her husband Burt have two sons, Carl who is in the U.S. Army and Cory, both are married with families. They love visiting their six grandchildren who live in Texas, North Carolina, and Germany.

Cheryl enjoys reading for pleasure, going to water exercise class and spending time renewing friendships. She has lived in Kalamazoo over 55 years.

She is an active volunteer in her community. She has been a library volunteer for four years at Woods Lake Elementary School. She volunteers at the Kalamazoo Education Association office as needed several times during the school year. Cheryl volunteers and walks in the Susan G. Koman "Walk for the Cure." She has been an active member of Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, a fraternity of professional educators for 25 years and has held many positions of leadership. In May of 2011 she was named "Chapter Woman of Distinction."

Cheryl loves to watch Western Michigan University sporting events - especially football, but also Men's basketball and Women's basketball and volleyball. GO BRONCOS!
