James E. VanderRoest

James E. VanderRoest is the board treasurer and chairs the Budget and Finance Committee. He also serves on the Building, Endowment, and Legal Affairs Committees. He served on the committee that selected the current Library Director. Jim has been on the board since 1991. He has served as board president for four terms and feels honored to have been president when KPL was named National Library of the Year in 2002. He sought election to the board as a matter of civic service and because he loves books, research, and libraries. Some of his first and best library memories involve the old Eastwood Branch, which was near his boyhood home. He has a particular interest in promoting KPL’s services to teens, and in the areas of reference and local history.

He is a lawyer in private practice in Kalamazoo. He attended Michigan State University and law school at Brigham Young University.
