Downloading eBooks

Downloading an eBook to your Nook

IMPORTANT: Download the free Adobe Digital Editions software to your computer and set up an Adobe ID (if you don’t already have one). Download this software at: http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions.html

  • Go to: www.kpl.gov
  • Under the “Popular” links, click on eBooks
  • Click “Search eBooks”. You will be transferred to the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services web site. KPL is a member of this consortium
  • Click “Sign-In” and enter your home library (Kalamazoo Public Library) and library card number
  • Search for available titles that are in the Adobe E-PUB file format. Click on the book cover in order to see important format information or to place a Hold on the book if it is checked out
  • Click the “Borrow” button
  • Click the “Go to Bookshelf” button
  • Use the “format” dropdown menu to make sure that you have selected the EPUB eBook version (do not download a Kindle book!)
  • Click the “Confirm” button
  • Click “Open
  • The title will begin to download to your Adobe Digital Editions software (that you’ve already downloaded to your computer)
  • To transfer the book to your Nook you must plug it in using an USB cable. Your Nook should show up in the Adobe Digital Editions software along the left-hand side of the screen
  • Once your Nook appears in Adobe Digital Editions, click and drag the book to your Nook and drop it onto your device when you see the green plus symbol.
  • Safely remove your Nook from your computer and your book will be stored on your device, typically in a folder of downloaded materials rather than in the Nook Library
