Listening is an Act of LoveListening is an Act of Love

I just finished one of the most amazing book I have ever read. Its called  Listening is an Act of Love and is a compilation of 49 stories collected from more than 10,000 recorded stories in the Storycorps Project. If you listen to NPR on Fridays, you might have heard one of these stories....

The WireGreatest crime drama ever?

Currently what we are watching at my house is the final season of the critically-acclaimed HBO series The Wire on DVD. I am shocked that this show has not been raking in the awards since it first aired in 2002. It is one of the most riveting and realistic portrayals of inner city life that has ever been created for television. The show's creators, David Simon and Edward Burns based the show on their book The Corner, a story of a drug trafficking in Baltimore. Over the course of five seasons the show focused on all facets of the not only the drug trade, but also what makes a major city operate in today's world. The characters are flawed but extremely likeable which causes the viewer to weep for the addict and curse the police. The Sopranos may have received all the accolades, but in my opinion The Wire is the best crime drama ever....

You will find yourself bobbing your head and dancing to the contagious beats on this CD. Hince's raw guitar playing is the perfect complement to Mosshart's sassy vocals. The Kills are another great rock duo with ties to Michigan, but one who doesn't only dress in three colors. ...

Congressman Upton helps Ready to ReadCongressman Upton helps Ready to Read

Last Friday morning, Congressman Fred Upton honored the library with a visit to the Family Heath Center to see our Ready to Read program in action. He surprised a group of young children in the pediatric waiting area by offering to read aloud to them. Although they were a little shy in beginning, it wasn’t long before he had the kids gathered around him, listening intently and participating in the stories. I was really impressed by his natural rapport with children....
