Spotlighting Kalamazoo Innovators

We know that members of our community are working hard to make Kalamazoo a better place to live and work. That’s why the Kalamazoo Public Library and ONEplace started KICtalks, an event series that spotlights dynamic, innovative endeavors happening right now.

Join us every quarter for three 10-minute talks presented by residents on the ground doing the work. The program is followed by a reception where locally-sourced refreshments will be served.

Call for Proposals

If you’re involved with an innovative initiative, we want to give you a platform to share your efforts. Submit a proposal to present at the next KICtalks on Thursday, November 12.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submit a 250 word proposal on you/your organization’s innovative, engaging efforts
  • Submission deadline: Monday, October 12 at 8 am
  • All applicants will be notified on Wednesday, October 14
  • If selected, you must be available during the week of October 26 for rehearsals, and on November 12 for the event

FAQ

What kind of endeavors are you looking for? Should I submit a proposal to speak at KICtalks?

Yes, if your initiative/program/project is: (1) innovative: something unique (2) engaging: there is a mechanism for the community to engage with your work and (3) community-building: making Kalamazoo a better place to live/work.

I’m working with [a grassroots/non-profit/for profit/no] organization. Is that okay?

Sure. We have no requirements for affiliation, as long as your talk focuses on a specific project as described above.

I already know what slides/audiovisual materials I would like to present. Should I email those separately from my proposal?

We ask that you submit only a 250 word statement. Please do not email any additional materials.

If you have any questions, please contact ONEplace or call 269-553-7910.
