First Saturday Fun @ the Library!
Take your family to the library the first Saturday of every month! Enjoy fun, free activities. Free books and door prizes!
On May 4, 2013, Kalamazoo Public Library, Kalamazoo Public Schools, and the Kalamazoo Literacy Council will sponsor First Saturday, from 2-4 pm, at the Central Library Children’s Room, 315 S Rose St.
This month: Read and Seed with the KLC!
The Kalamazoo Literacy Council has planned activities and crafts related to their Read and Seed initiative in the Children's Room.
This new initiative, now into its 2nd year, encourages families to make regular library visits an important part of their lives. Hundreds of parents and children have attended the First Saturday events so far!
On First Saturday, families will enjoy fun, free activities designed to entertain their children. They’ll see that the library offers popular movies, music and books to borrow and computers to work on, all for free. They’ll learn that libraries and librarians can answer questions on hundreds of topics, plus help with homework.
Partner Organizations
A number of other organizations are partnering with KPL and KPS in the First Saturday initiative. Each month, one or more of the partners will cosponsor the First Saturday event. Upcoming cosponsors include Kalamazoo Public Schools, the NMA, and the NAACP in June and KPL in July. Please join us!
Partner organizations currently include Boys and Girls Club of Kalamazoo, Great Start Collaborative, Great Start Collaborative Parent Coalition, Communities in Schools of Kalamazoo, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, Kalamazoo Valley Museum, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Kalamazoo County Ready 4s, Kalamazoo Literacy Council, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Michigan, NAACP, Hispanic American Council, and the Northside Ministerial Alliance. Any organization that serves families and children will be welcome in the initiative.
