With sales of gently used books from the Friends Bookstore, membership dues, and gifts, the group provides ongoing support to many Kalamazoo Public Library outreach programs and services. It also encourages literacy and reading within the community by making affordable quality reading materials available to everyone.
The Friends is governed by an elected board with two part-time employees and more than 300 dues-paying members. We are one of more than 2,000 Friends of the Library groups nationwide.
The Friends of the Kalamazoo Public Library is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the library as an essential institution in our community.
In 2009, Friends of the Kalamazoo Public Library celebrated its 50th anniversary. For more than five decades, the Friends have encouraged reading and literacy by underwriting library sponsored reading outreach programs and by operating the Friends Bookstore year-round as a source of affordable reading for everyone.
