Judy Bosshart

My name is Judy Bosshart and I am a bibliophile! Although, I do listen to audio books and haven’t ruled out a Kindle in the future. I spent over 30 years as the Library Director of the Kalamazoo Branch of Davenport University. Contrary to popular opinion, librarianship does not equate to being able to read for a living. But, for me, it was a constantly changing profession that was never boring. There has only been one time in my career that being a librarian demanded that I read and that was when I was on and then chaired the Michigan Author of the Year Award committee sponsored by the Michigan Library Association (the years that Sarah Stewart, Christopher Paul Curtis, and Steve Hamilton won!!!) It was heaven.

In my spare time, I love to read, so it seems a natural fit that my volunteer time is spent helping others who also enjoy books and reading. I participated in Ready to Read as a volunteer reader at KCMS until that program took a different direction and then became a Friends volunteer. It is so rewarding to see someone select a book that I thoroughly enjoyed or to find a new favorite when customers share their reasons for purchasing particular titles. I also volunteer at St. Thomas More Student Parish and at Borgess Hospital.

Everyone in my family (including husband of 44 years, 3 children, and 4 grandchildren) is an avid reader in all formats, including audio and e-books, so we always have something to share or discuss. In addition to enjoying anything they are involved in, I belong to Bridge, Bunco, and Book clubs. I enjoy traveling. My other love is chocolate!
