Pat Norris was the director of the Kalamazoo Public/ Valley Museum for the final 25 years in a 44 year career as an Army Lieutenant, college administrator, and member of the contingent university faculty. He retired from the museum in June 2010 and from Western Michigan University in 2013 where he had been an adjunct professor of history and global studies, off and on, since 1986.
In his retirement, Pat has written for the Kalamazoo Gazette and for Museum Magazine; consulted for the American Alliance of Museums on four accreditation and assessment visits; served two terms on the Friends board; and, otherwise maintained a broad margin to his life. He enjoys waking up at 7:45, clerking at the Friends book store, working in the Loaves & Fishes warehouse, and serving as a docent for Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. In the last several years, he and his wife Terry have been able to visit Europe, ride bikes together throughout Southwest Michigan, and enjoy their two grandchildren in Chicago.
