Kalamazoo Gazette Indexing Criteria

The events, movements, people, companies and organizations that shape and affect the daily life of southwest Michigan and become the history of tomorrow…these become the contents of the Kalamazoo Gazette index. Its prime purpose is to serve as a subject and personal name retrieval tool, for current and future historical and genealogical needs, to selected articles in the Kalamazoo Gazette. While most statewide Michigan news is indexed, major emphasis is on southwestern Michigan news.

For our purposes, southwestern Michigan is defined as Muskegon south to the Indiana state line, and Jackson west to Lake Michigan. News about other communities may be included in the index if they might be of interest to local readers.

Omitted are most national and international news stories; most advertisements; announcements of routine organizational events and meetings; social calendars; routine sports events; and non-news items such as household hints, recipes, personal advice columns, and travel.
