Kalamazoo: Then and Now


William A. Johnson House, c1869

 

William Johnson built this house in 1864 following his graduation from Albion College and relocation to Kalamazoo. He lived in this spacious Italianate at 211 Woodward Avenue until his death in 1883.

The William A. Johnson House has been incredibly well-preserved over the years, and appears much as it did 140 years ago. It is widely admired as an exceptional example of the Italianate style of architecture.
