Early in the morning on 24 September 1924, a Michigan Central passenger train was derailed near Kalamazoo when it struck an automobile that had become immobilized while crossing the tracks. The derailment of westbound passenger train No. 1 resulted in the death of one employee, and the injury of 25 passengers, one employee, and one Pullman porter. The following photographs were taken by Nicholas Luikens, an employee of the Michigan Central Railroad shortly after the incident.These images were donated for the Kalamazoo Public Library's use by Susie Dodson, grandniece of Nicholas.
