Staff Picks: Music

Fruit Bats

It took two tries, but I’m hooked on the music of the Fruit Bats on their cd The Ruminant Band. I hear touches of Neil Young and country rock “Waiting on a Friend” era Rolling Stones accompanied by a prog rock-voiced lead singer.

I was thinking that I should mention something about what the songs are about, but I realize I have no idea. I mostly listen to music while I’m doing something else so it’s the music that affects me more than the words.

Check it out, maybe twice. It grows on you.

Nice one, Steve! Great stuff - reminds me a bit of Green on Red... loads of Velvet Underground influence. I'm hooked!
Even cooler - at least one Fruit Bat made Kalamazoo home not too long ago! The band has played in town a couple of times in the last few years - the local roots could mean they're bound to play here again - keep an eye out!
You're right about the lead singer's voice. Good 70s sound from a new band. I'll check out the CD. Would like to see the Bats in concert.

I like all kinds ofmusic. This is reminiscient music and has a laid back, cool sound.
