Kalamazoo, MI –
There is still time to register for the 21st Annual Party in the Park! Kalamazoo County preschoolers, their parents, teachers, and child care providers are invited to Bronson Park to hear stories read by community leaders and costumed story book characters. Each child receives healthy snacks, juice and a gift book courtesy of Kalamazoo Public Library.
This event is free, and open to the public. Register online or call 553-7885 to register and reserve bus parking if needed.
Since 1998, Ready to Read has celebrated national Stand for Children Day with a special story hour to focus community attention on the importance of early childhood literacy. Ready to Read is a Kalamazoo Public Library outreach program that encourages parents and caregivers to share books with children from birth to five years of age. Education research shows that reading aloud to children is the best way to prepare them for learning to read. Children that start kindergarten being familiar with books are more likely to become good readers and achieve academic success.
Ready to Read partners include pediatricians, pre-natal and parent educators, community organizations serving at-risk families and Kalamazoo Literacy Council.
Party in the Park is cosponsored by Kalamazoo Public Library, Child Care Resources and Kalamazoo RESA.
