Community Rooms Policy


Mission Statement

The Kalamazoo Public Library helps create a community where people aspire to learn, engage, and thrive.

The Kalamazoo Public Library welcomes the use of its Community Rooms for activities which reflect the Library’s core values. Permission to use the meeting rooms in no way implies library endorsement of goals or activities of any organization using the rooms.


Eligibility

To reserve a Community Room a completed request form and payment needs to be submitted to the Kalamazoo Public Library (KPL) Administration Office at the Central Library location 10 business days prior to the meeting or event. Community Rooms can only be booked by Kalamazoo Public Library district card holders. Reciprocal card holders cannot request a community room unless they have purchased full service with their card. Temporary card holders do not have the ability to request a community room.

Community Rooms are available to commercial and non-commercial organizations and/or patrons for meetings and programs for a fee. The fee for commercial organizations and/or patrons is $150 for every one to four hours, and $250 for every four to eight hours. The fee for a non-commercial organizations and/or patrons is $25 every two hours. The library must be notified of cancellations five business days before the meeting date to remain in good standing. Room fees are non-refundable. If an organization needs to cancel the room request, the organization will have a credit to use a meeting room another time within 1 calendar year.

Organizations and/or Patrons of KPL Community Rooms must abide by the Rules of Conduct for Library Use. Organizations and/or patrons have the right to reserve a community room for a private meeting and/or event. Patrons cannot request to attend an organizations and/or patrons private meeting and/or event. Community Rooms cannot be reserved for personal social events such as showers, birthday parties, memorials, weddings, or receptions.


Priority

The library and the Friends of Kalamazoo Public Library have first priority on the rooms. Other meetings will be scheduled on a first come first served basis.
