Public Art and Controversy

Date, Location

Reading Together 2013 Event

Oftentimes there is a gap between what the artist intended and what the viewer perceives.  And what happens when not everyone agrees?  Past and present members of the Kalamazoo County Public Arts Commission will each speak from their own perspective – artist, historian, curator, educator – about what a viewer brings to his/her response to and understanding of a piece of art. They’ll also discuss how art represents a community and how a community could choose its art incorporating many local and regional examples.
