Can you imagine a childhood without books? Do you enjoy reading aloud?
Ready to Read needs volunteers to share books with children in the waiting rooms of health clinics, social service agencies, homeless shelters, and Head Start & PEEP classrooms. Introduce children to the joy of reading and model positive reading interactions for parents and caregivers.
Kalamazoo Public Library provides training and orientation for volunteer readers, and a great supply of children's books. Each volunteer spends approximately two hours per week, on a regular schedule, reading to children at a community site serving at-risk families.
