Keith Howard

My career at Kalamazoo Public Library began in 2004, first as a Community Relations assistant, then as Computer Trainer, but my association with the library actually goes back much further. Throughout my childhood years, I visited the library and (then) museum whenever possible with my aunt, Ruth Howard, who was the museum’s education curator and planetarium operator until her retirement in 1976. I have many fond memories of those visits, and was (and indeed still am) captivated by all this fine institution offers. Although extensively renovated since, many of the internal hallways and stairwells of Central Library still seem strangely familiar.

I am a two-time graduate of Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business, with an undergraduate degree in accounting and a master’s degree in Business Information Systems. As the library’s Web Coordinator, my function is (among other things) to oversee the development and day-to-day operation of the library’s online branch. I highly value the services the library provides for our community, and am both honored and humbled to be part of such a noble yet dynamic organization. Your feedback about the library's online branch is always welcome.

Married and a father of five (and now a grandfather!), I am an avid (ok, rabidmusic collector and photographer. My current fascination is with early Kalamazoo bands and orchestras, but when it comes to listening, my tastes range from early jazz and blues to post-punk, prog-rock, and nearly everything in between. As a true lifelong learner, my passion for discovery has me in the midst of a research project to document the history of Oakwood Park, Kalamazoo’s once-famous amusement park near Woods Lake. Whenever possible, I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, taking pictures, and tromping through the backwoods with our beloved Labramutt, Abbey.
