Lisa Williams

When I was growing up, my grandmother often introduced me as “the bookworm” because I spent so much time reading. It only makes sense that I’d end up working at a library.

I joined Kalamazoo Public Library in 2007 as programming specialist and coordinator of Reading Together. Other cool activities in my job are presenting author visits, concerts, discussions and other library programs.

It’s a delight to work with so many talented and enthusiastic people at Kalamazoo Public Library. One of the best parts of my job is meeting our patrons. And I love to be surrounded by all these books. Because cooking and travel are two of my favorite pursuits, I enjoy browsing KPL’s impressive collection of cookbooks.

Because my interests are many and varied, my route to KPL has been an adventure. I spent 12 wonderful years in the nonprofit sector handling marketing, public relations and program development. I’ve also worked for a state environmental protection agency and spent a summer as a park naturalist in the North Dakota Badlands. I’ve been a freelance food writer and restaurant critic since 1992.

I’m a native of Louisiana (yes, I speak Southern fluently) where I gained an undergraduate degree in business administration from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. My master’s degree is from the Ohio State University School of Natural Resources.
