I was born in Cumberland County, Tennessee, but in my early years traveled and lived all over the state of Tennessee. My father was a land acquisitions officer for the Tennessee Valley Authority and we traveled to be near wherever he was acquiring land. Later, when he became a partner in a private law firm, we settled again in Cumberland County, near Crossville, where I graduated from high school. I received a BA degree form George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee and later an MLS from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
I have always loved reading and thinking about books and authors. When I found out that one could read and be around books for a living, I knew that was the profession for me. I have a natural talent for the cataloging of books, and have been blessed with the job of doing this work for over thirty years. Indexing the Kalamazoo Gazette for our index in Local History has come more recently, but again, I find that I have a natural bent for the job. I am coming to the end of my career at the Kalamazoo Public Library, and I can say with some confidence that I look forward to a life of reading and thinking about books and authors during my retirement years. I look forward to nurturing a love of reading and books in my grandchildren and look forward to having them give their reading recommendations to me.
