Kalamazoo Public Library Celebrates its 140th Anniversary

Kalamazoo Public Library celebrates its 140th anniversary with an appearance by literary journalist Susan Orlean. Her best-selling book, The Orchid Thief, was made the Oscar-winning movie, Adaptation, starring Meryl Streep. Her latest work, Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend, tells the story of Rin Tin Tin’s improbable journey from puppy orphaned on a 1918 WW I battlefield to movie star and international icon.

Orlean became a staff writer for The New Yorker in 1992. She wrote dozens of “Talk of the Town” pieces, “Profiles” and “Reporter at Large” articles, plus a series of American popular culture columns called “Popular Chronicles.” Prior to joining The New Yorker, Orlean served as a contributing editor at Rolling Stone and Vogue. Esquire, New York Times Magazine, Smithsonian, and numerous others have published her articles. A University of Michigan grad, she teaches creative writing at NYU.
