The Gift Book Sale continues this week. There are still lots of really nice, quality books that will make nice gifts.
Our annual, and much anticipated, Gift Book Sale begins this Friday. It's a wonderful way to start your holiday shopping. You will find like-new books, in pristine condition, at a fraction of retail price. This sale includes all types of books, both fiction and nonfiction, for children and adults. At this sale you could by a dozen 'like-new' books for the price of one book at a typical new bookstore. The sale starts at 10:00.
We will be closing early on Wednesday. The store will close at 3:30.
Well if this weather is an indication of the winter ahead, you really should make some time to come down to the bookstore and stock up on books. You know all the things we are advised to have on hand in case of an emergency, like candles, flashlights and food that doesn't need to be cooked? Add books to that list
There are a couple of things going on in the bookstore this week that I want to share with you.
First let me tell you about the large collection of jazz CDs that will be available this week. Upfront I will admit that I don’t know a lot about jazz. The list of jazz musicians that I’m familiar with doesn’t extend much outside the greats like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker. I googled jazz genres trying to get a handle on what we have. Unfortunately that didn’t help much, although I did learn that that there are many more styles of jazz than I thought. I’ve included the link, in case you’re interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_jazz_genres. So come on down if you like jazz. I’ve been told there’s a good selection, some recordings are a little obscure but interesting. Judge for yourself.
Also, I’d like to remind you that the Kalamazoo Holiday Parade is this Saturday. I hope you’re able to come downtown and enjoy the festivities. After the parade stop down at the bookstore. We have a fun holiday craft activity planned for children. Children can make a holiday bookmark as a gift or to use with a special Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa book that we will have specially priced at 50% off.
The holidays are upon us. Halloween has come and gone but Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah are right around the bend. To help get you in the mood, stop down and check out our holiday book selections. We have an extra nice selection of children’s books about Thanksgiving. Our Christmas and Hanukkah selections are for children and adults. You’ll find stories, crafts, and decorating books as well as holiday movies and music.
If all this talk of holidays and the thought of snowy winter days make your mind turn to thoughts of travel, we have just the thing. Travel guides are a great help for preparing for trips you have planned but they’re also wonderful just to look through and dream of trips you’ll take someday. We have a very nice selection of current travel guides for planning or dreaming.
Are you prepared for the invasion coming this Friday? Pint-size witches, devils, ghosts, princesses, cowboys and (I’m betting) a boatload of little Elsa’s, Spider Men and Captain Americas will be streaming down the streets of our neighborhoods. To get you in the mood, stop by the store this week and stock up on some spooky, scary, or silly and fun Halloween stories all priced 50% off this week.
Specials this week also include: military history and music.
Friends of KPL is joining WMU and downtown Kalamazoo in celebrating Spirit Week, the lead up to WMU’s Homecoming weekend, October 24 – 26. To honor Western and to celebrate Spirit Week all college students (from any college) with college IDs will receive 10% off their entire purchase. Remember to identify yourself as a college student and present your ID. We look forward to seeing you this week!
This week, recent “Hot Picks” – the books that everybody is reading and talking about, have been reduced to $2.00 each. Come on in and buy a stack.
I’ve received several calls from people wondering about dates for upcoming sales. So grab your pencil and calendar or (more likely) your phone and record these dates.
