Apr 19, 2019 11:59:30 AM
Kalamazoo, MI –
Join us on Sunday, April 28, 2 pm at Central Library to meet Tim Nordwind (KPS Graduate) and Damian Kulash from OK Go before they perform at the State Theatre. OK Go have become known as much for their elaborate music videos as for the smart, melodic pop songs they accompany. Hear them talk about their innovative music and videos. Q&A and autograph session to follow. A pair of tickets to the State Theatre event will be given away once the Meet & Greet is over.
Since forming in 1998, OK Go have become known as much for their elaborate music videos as for the smart, melodic pop songs they accompany. When their 2006 dance on treadmills went viral, drawing tens of millions of views and helping fuel the explosion of the fledgling YouTube, the band leaned in and embraced the dissolution of creative boundaries in the digital era and produced a decade of genre-defying videos. Now, to celebrate their 20th anniversary they are taking their video tour and live concert experience on the road and performing a live soundtrack to their eye-catching and pioneering videos.
Lead singer Damian Kulash, who directs the videos, says, “We love writing songs, but we’re also just generally creatively lusty, and chasing that urge to make stuff usually takes us into territory we could never have predicted.”
Their band’s work has been honored with countless accolades, including a Grammy, three VMA’s, 21 Cannes Lions, and The Smithsonian Ingenuity Award. They’ve written op-eds for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and Rolling Stone, they’ve testified before the US Congress, and they’ve collaborated with everyone from Google to The Muppets; they’ve even worked with UCLA biochemists to encode their work in strands of DNA.
